About Our Community

The Sydney Area Residents Association (SARA) in Crewe, Cheshire, is a community-driven group dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents in the Sydney area. Our initiatives include organising volunteer activities such as litter picking and maintaining a community orchard, which was established with the support of a £1,050 donation from Anwyl Homes.

We Need Your Vote

The Sydney Community & Wildlife Park is a project that needs your vote to turn the last remaining field of Sydney Road into a haven for the community and wildlife.

The Sydney area has had more than its fair share of housing development planning applications. This has led to the area being overdeveloped to the detriment of the community.

We are fed up with landowners and housing companies exploiting the concept of “Affordable Housing” to push through their “build everywhere” agenda without regard for the wellbeing or wishes of the community.

Our Vision

To preserve and transform our local three-acre field into a haven of nature,
wellness, and community connection, benefitting both people and wildlife. Our
aim is to create a space that brings lasting enrichment to the lives of Crewe’s
residents, giving a sanctuary of natural beauty and tranquillity amidst the
pressures of urban growth.

Our Purpose

Our initiative is grounded in the belief
that access to nature is essential for the well-being of our community. As we
face the threat of further development, which would add 40 more homes to an
area already burdened by overbuilding, we ask that this land be preserved for a
higher purpose: the health, well-being, and natural heritage of Crewe’s
residents and wildlife.

Our Goals & Values

Supporting Community Health and Well-being

With increased access to green spaces shown to
improve mental and physical health, the community park will serve as a peaceful
retreat for relaxation, exercise, and reflection. Nature paths, serene
landscapes, and quiet zones will encourage residents to recharge and connect,
promoting overall community wellness.

Protecting
Wildlife and Promoting Biodiversity

The field will host wildflower meadows, native
trees, and a pond that offers essential habitats for birds, insects, and small
mammals. Preserving this space means preserving an ecosystem, creating a refuge
for wildlife that enriches the biodiversity of Crewe.

Building
a Stronger, United Community

This park will be a space where families,
friends, and neighbors can come together, fostering a deeper sense of
community. Local groups and residents will have opportunities to contribute
through volunteering, nature programs, and events that strengthen our
collective identity and pride.

Enhancing
Environmental Awareness and Responsibility

Educational programs and events held within the
park will encourage respect for our environment, teaching sustainable practices
and fostering a sense of stewardship for future generations. This initiative
aligns with the broader charity purpose of promoting environmental protection
and sustainability.

Preserving
Our Community Character

Our town has witnessed rapid development, adding
hundreds of homes in recent years. While growth is part of modern living, the
relentless expansion is diminishing what makes Crewe unique. This park is an
opportunity to protect our town's character by balancing development with
preservation.

Our Commitment

We commit to managing this park focused solely on community benefits. Through the Syndey
Area Residence Association we can raise funds, secure grants, and engage
residents in ongoing efforts to sustain and improve this cherished space.

Join Us in This Vision

We call upon the residents of Crewe to join us in preserving this field as a community and wildlife park. Together, we can ensure that this land serves as a
place of joy, health, and natural beauty for generations to come.
